Open Answer To A Letter From A Praying Friend

Request for Prayer Request

From: M. Baumann

To: Gerry Gutierrez

Hi Gerry and Julie,

Gerry, you may remember me - Mary Baumann from McLean Presbyterian Church.  (or you may not.. that's ok, too)

I am on the Missions Committee at MPC and am preparing a monthly calendar of prayer requests for our congregation to pray for our ministry partners. Is there something we could pray for regarding you or your ministry - either specific or general that can be expressed in one sentence?

I also was wondering if you are now permanently in Huanta or are you in Tennessee?  or both?

God bless you both in your ministry and thank you for all your letters.

Mary Baumann

Dear Mary;

Before I answer your letter, let me share what I read this morning in order to white you properly.
Gerry

Jesus Walks on the Water

22 Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd. 23 After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone, 24 and the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.

25 Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. 26 When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear.

27 But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”

28 “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”

29 “Come,” he said.

Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”

31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”

32 And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. 33 Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”

34 When they had crossed over, they landed at Gennesaret. 35 And when the men of that place recognized Jesus, they sent word to all the surrounding country. People brought all their sick to him 36 and begged him to let the sick just touch the edge of his cloak, and all who touched it were healed.

Today is March the 16, 2014

This is part of my First Thought series

From Georgia at 4:30 AM

(Julie keeps telling me “Shine for Jesus” so I went to pray and meditate)

In the closet of my heart I saw who I really am today.

I am a traveler of a small boat in choppy waters, just as terrified as my fellowship (Fellows of the same ship)

As the time draws near to our Lord’s return; with the eyes of faith; we can hear and see ever more so clearly Jesus approaching as if walking on the waters telling us:

Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid”

In my old age I have asked the Lord to be willing to:

“Tell me to come to you on the water”

Pray for me, for I am about to step out of the “safety” of the boat in which I have been traveling for more than the third watch of the night of my life.

I have heard the voice of our Lord Jesus saying: “Come”.

Pray that I may believe what I have clearly heard and boldly preach to others to “Come to Jesus and take him at his word and fire that which I have been loading all my life”. “Come to Jesus on the waters by faith and child like trust to shine for Him”

Pray that I may not be afraid!
Pray that I may not doubt!
Pray that I may trust Jesus’ words “I am with you always to the end of the ages”
Pray that I may remember that there is no reason to doubt.
Pray that my Fellowship may worship afresh God saying: “Truly Jesus is the Son of God”

Dear Mary,

You have asked me to say in one sentence a prayer request for the saints in my beloved church at McLean PCA. Here it is.

“Pray that I may believe what I said to believe for the last stretch of my race”

Thank you faithful and treasured friends of many years. I do remember you and your generous husband very well.

I wish you blessings in the name of Jesus the one and only true Son of God.

PS. We are aching to go back to the mountains of Peru ASAP, but more than anything else we long for His will be done in our lives should this be something else. At this time we are in Georgia at least to the end of August 2014. A formal letter will follow this letter soon announcing future plans.
